Save 2 Sew – Improvements

Class Begins with a review of the Save 2 Sew tool. There were some changes to this tool with the latest build of the software (3126) and Trevor shows several examples to learn from. Choosing the fabric you will be sewing on is the main purpose of Save 2 Sew and it will help you with suggestions on stabilizer to use. If you choose to allow new styles you get the “Walter Effect” and the software will adjust settings like density, underlay and pull compensation to make the design better for sewing on the fabric you choose. This is a good review of the basic principles of embroidery design.
Import a TTF Font

Learn to use the Import TTF Artwork tool to get art segments for each letter. The alternative is to use the Lettering tool to create a lettering segment from the TTF letters. There are advantages to using each method and Trevor show some of the differences.
Add Split Line Tool

This is very helpful when working with TTF artwork or shapes that have been auto digitized. Using the split line tool and the add inclinations tool you can affect the exact way that the stitches are created. Trevor shows how to change the serif on lettering.
Special Character Map

Learn how to use the special characters that are in a font but we don’t have a keyboard letter for. Trevor uses the windows find a character window to help with finding and selecting the character you want. Then you can copy and paste the character in to the lettering properties box.
Save Symbol

In this segment Trevor shows how to add a new symbol to your collection. Saving your favourite embroidery design as a symbol makes it close at hand and easy to find when you want to add re use the design again and again in new projects. Trevor shows how to find this bicycle in the weddings TTF Font and then use the Save 2 Sew tool to correct the style of underlay and add some pull compensation. Once happy with the design you can select it and choose “Tools/Save Symbol” to add that design to your symbols drop down menu. It’s easy to scale a symbol to any size and you may need to adjust settings for underlay etc depending on the size.

Sherrie sent in this logo with a question about how to create the big letter 0 that sews around the text. Trevor shows how to use the hands on tools and create the shapes with the overlap that is needed to be sure that there will be no gaps between the colours.
Font Importer

Learn to use the new Font Importer that was added to the software in the latest build (3126). This will allow you to make a new font based on letters that you create or that you may have purchased. If you have any sets of purchased fonts this is how you can add them to your FTCU fonts.
