Ways to Select Shapes

Begins at 7:30 of the video.  Duration 13 minutes.

Trevor begins the year off with a review of the ways you can select shapes.  Sometimes you want to select just part of a design and it can be tricky to get all of the parts you need and in this segment Trevor shows you a few different selecting techniques. FTCU-W03-01.004.jpeg

Satin Path vs Fill

Begins at 20:20 of the video.  Duration 7 minutes.

The difference is that a satin path can have more than one inclination line and the fill shape will only have one.  Both types of shape can have a satin stitch or fill stitch and Trevor thought it would help to clarify the difference in the tools so you can know when to choose each one.FTCU-W03-01.005.jpeg

Size Changes – What to Fix

Begins at 28:00 of the video.  Duration 34 minutes.

In this segment Trevor looks at what can go wrong when you edit the size of a design.  Trevor takes the little butterfly from 1” to 2” and makes a few edits.  Then we make the butterfly 3.5” and there are more edits needed.  Learn what to look for when making size changes.FTCU-W03-01.006.jpeg

Digitize Vectors – Flip Flops

Begins at 1:02:30 of the video.  Duration 6 minutes.

Trevor will show you how to open vector artwork and then assign the types of stitches to the shapes.  There are several things to consider before you can make decisions such as what size will the final flip flops be.  We also consider the layering of the design and what should sew first and then what would come on top.  We consider the size of the shapes on top and if we should remove the stitching underneath or sew two layers together.  This is a lead in to the next segment where we do more with vectors.  FTCU-W03-01.007FTCU-W03-01.008FTCU-W03-01.009

This is a fun segment where Trevor invites some of the attendees to join the class and interact with Trevor.  The idea is they will decided what artwork to digitize and what size etc and then Trevor works out the steps needed to make their ideas come to life.  We did have fun and learning did happen and Trevor promised a follow up session in the next class to FTCU-W03-01.010.jpeg

Sketch Style – Bison

Begins at 2:08:00 of the video.  Duration 15 minutes.

Did you love the sketch style rose from the W03 intro DVD?  If you did then hold on to your hat because Trevor is at it again and this time he wants you to get in on the fun.  Trevor creates this buffalo design in the sketch style using the pen drawing mode to make it.  The artwork or image that he used to make it from was also a sketch and that makes this design very easy to create because you simply sketch over the same sketching in the artwork.  You don’t need to follow the lines exactly close is good enough and Trevor tells you to be free and let the stitches sew where ever you like.  The main thing to try not to do is break the line because it will sew much more nicely if you can connect all of the sketching and there are no jumps or trims.  FTCU-W03-01.015FTCU-W03-01.022FTCU-W03-01.029FTCU-W03-01.030FTCU-W03-01.031FTCU-W03-01.032
