FTC-U Workshop 03 -07
Class length is approximately 2 hours and 11 minutes.
Digitize Motif from JPG Artwork
Begins at 4:00 of the video. Duration 18 minutes.
Trevor begins this class by digitizing this design from a .JPG image of a hand drawing. Trevor takes a quick look at auto digitizing the artwork but the results are not as intended. Trevor wanted to fill all of the shapes in with a satin fill and the auto digitizing is picking up the outlines. To achieve the intended satin fill of the shapes Trevor will need to use the hands on digitizing method of tracing each shape using the drawing tool in the FTCU software.
Satin Path Plus Run Line
Begins at 21:45 of the video. Duration 36 minutes.
Trevor uses the very simple “A to D” digitizing method to make this design. Satin Path then Run Line and repeat. The run line walks from the end of the previous satin fill to the beginning of the next satin fill. This method will minimize the number of stitches in the design.
Commands – Tie in and Tie off
Begins at 57:30 of the video. Duration 13 minutes.
Wow! This is an eye opener. When doing “A-D” digitizing it is important to turn off the tie in and tie off for each individual segment. Because we are connecting the segments the tie in and tie off are not needed and you can save a lot of stitches turning them off.
Display Options
Begins at 1:10:00 of the video. Duration 5 minutes.
Using display options you can control what is shown in the background of your work space. You can choose any colour or display fabric in the background. There are several types of material to choose from and you can also display a photo you take of your exact fabric.
Motif – Hand Made Look
Begins at 1:15:45 of the video. Duration 24 minutes.
The original Motif design was created and stitched using a standard type of satin fill with default settings for density and underlay. Now we make some edits to the properties and create a hand made look. Learn to select all of the satin path segments and apply a new effect called “Satin Repeats” . Choose from 3, 5, 7, 9 repeats and the software will automatically adjust the density to give the effect of hand made embroidery with thick threads. Trevor tests the design using 40wt mixed and variegated specialty threads.
Fireworks – Fun with Lines
Begins at 1:39:45 of the video. Duration 20 minutes.
Trevor created this set of fireworks to show off the new variable size on a motif line. This is so much fun and the results are really cool. Also featured in the design are bean 3 ply run lines that look nice and bold to really stand out. Also interesting to see how the lettering are placed to align with the path of the rocket.
Warrior from Vector Artwork Fun with Mixed Motif Fill
Begins at 1:56:00 of the video. Duration 15 minutes.
This design is provided as a vector artwork so all you need to do is select the shapes and assign a style of fill. Trevor used cross stitch fill for the blue outlines of this design. The red mask is a motif fill and the white sections feature a mixed motif pattern. Mixed motifs are a new feature in FTCU software and the results are very cool.
